A small remotely piloted UAV drone was spotted hoovering over the river as the Chicago Fire Festival got underway. The vehicle is suspected to have been carrying a camera to record aerial photography. It does not appear to have been authorized.
The object was only aloft for a few minutes then came down on the south side near State St.

Only one of the three structures floating at crucial points along the Chicago River ignited on cue to suggest the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. And attempts to switch from electrical ignition to the old-fashioned manual technique in order to get a roaring blaze going were only fitfully successful. The conflagration never fully happened. But just when all seemed lost, a celebratory fireworks show briefly brought the event to a conclusion.
...The idea was that out of the ashes of a great historical disaster, Chicago was quickly reborn. But without a successful “staged destruction” there could be no transformation — no skyscrapers rising from the river and no glass sculpture emerging as the city’s flag.

Multiple alarms for huge warehouse fire on Chicago's West Side. Several firefighters overcome from heat and exhaustion.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, the fire started at a building housing metal products company LPI Worldwide, and spread to Harris Ice Company and a two-story residential building.

The massive fire at Harris Ice Delivery in Lawndale ignited on accident while the roof was being repaired, according to a Chicago Fire Department investigation.
A Level 1 Hazmat was called after chemicals Harris Ice Delivery uses, including propane, led to a few explosions. Some homes lost power and some neighbors were evacuated due to the Hazmat call.
